Mario doesn't look up the scaffold first before ascending it, so he thinks it's Pauline as he's climbing.  Meanwhile, the sniper is getting into position off in the distance as this is going on.  Mario gets to the top, realizes it's Arnie, and starts to leave.  But then it turns out DK doesn't want anything to do with Arnie any longer either, so he and Mario start arguing over who's going to take him.  The sniper takes his clear shot at DK just as Mario steps in front...and both Mario and DK are taken out.  The movie then ends with a ROTMK funeral scene parody for both Mario and DK...and of course, Arnie unintentionally ruins the funeral in some disturbing way.

Well, maybe we don't need the funeral bit, but not having it could be a missed opportunity, in terms of a running gag for the series (I'm assuming there will be more movies).

I won't use all of that, but I do LOVE the idea of a Donkey Kong version of the ROTMK funeral scene. Gonna edit the big post in a few mins.
