Enjoying the shit out of my summer vacation catching up on books, shows, movies, and most importantly, vidya!
Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy
Caught it on sale last minute. I've played through the first two titles, but never finished the final case in 3. Never played anything after that, decided this is the best way to get back into it.
They up-res all of the character and item sprites, so everyone and everything look a lot better than in the original titles. So far finished the first game, and was reminded why I got so enthralled in these games in the first place. The writing and direction is so good, for a handheld court drama.
Rhythm Heaven Megamix (3DS)
A collaboration title of all 3 Rhythm Heaven games, as well as a bunch of brand new stages! So far it's pretty good, but the stages are just a tad too easy. I'm hoping later on there's more challenging versions of all the stages.
I've also been on an intense Resident Evil fix.
Resident Evil 1 Remake (PS4)
Got the best ending with Jill. Haven't played this game in at least 12 years, so this has been awesome. For a game that takes inspiration from cheesy American horror flicks, I fucking love the atmosphere. And the extra story of the Trevor Family they added in the REmake is so deliciously depressing.
Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles (PS3)
My PS3 Camera (or possibly Move controller) doesn't seem to be functioning properly, so I decided "Fuck it!" and just use the PS3 controller. It kind of sucks, but still somewhat playable. God, I really wish they released these for PC.
Resident Evil 5: Lost in Nightmares (PS3)
I've had this for the longest time, but just never got around to it. It's alright as an extra half-hour chapter, but it's even better (and I suppose more nostalgic) to use the old-school camera easter egg.
The Evil Within (PC)
I can barely get it running at a steady 40 fps, profound sadness
Dead Rising 3 (PC)
Can't even get THIS running at 30 without setting literally everything to lowest settings. God, can't wait to build a new PC.
BloodRayne (PC)
I actually never played this before, decided to go through this to get the trading cards. A pretty dumb hack-n-slash game but I'll say it was kind of ambitious for its time. Also, dat ass. Also, god damn the blood-drain mechanic (and the fucking moans the voice-actress makes when performing it) reminds me how chicks biting me used to get my rocks off like crazy back in highschool. Going to eventually play the sequels as well.
Metal Slug 2 (PC)
Got it for 50 cents. Last fucking achievement is glitched, so I guess I can't 100% it. Also, it's funny reminding myself why this title was so fucking awful.
Painkiller: Hell & Damnation (PC)
It's a fun campaign designed around an arena shooter. Enemy designs are kind of lame, but I didn't get very far. Weapons are cool.
Her Story (PC)
When I first heard about this game, I didn't know what to think. Last thing I expected was hearing the name "Sam Barlow" again. He's the writer for this game, but before this wrote the garbage stories known as Silent Hill: Origins and Silent Hill: Shattered Memories. I got through this and witnessed the whole story and . . . it was actually not bad. I think narrow crime dramas is more of his calling. I was genuinely interested in the story, and the ending achieved in me going "Ahh . . . clever, Barlow." so yeah, I got more out of this game than I thought I would.
Legend of Korra (PC)
I've been rewatching the series, felt like finally starting this game. It's really annoying to get started, but becomes satisfying once you attain all your abilities. I'm just getting tired of fighting the same sub-bosses over and over. Still, a nice beat-em-up for the 3 bucks I paid for.
Manhunt (PS4)
I always loved this game, caught it on a good sale. But, you know, seeing as how the likes of Sony and Rockstar are still allowed to sell this game . . . they've HAD to have thought of making a 3rd title . . . right?
Shadow of the Colossus (PS3)
I never finished it until recently. God, that was satisfying. I loved the boss designs, the challenge they provided, and the minimal story was pretty good too.
Mirror's Edge: Catalyst (Xbone)
Really disappointing. It's the same game, but more streamlined and worse animation. The combat is also complete garbage. It was done so well in the first game, but their attempt to expand upon it (and adding a side dodge feature) completely break it. Also, the open world is senseless and disappointing.
